We are down to two weeks of work left before summer vacation! All kinds of things are finishing up for the year. For me, the biggest relief is that I am now officially done coaching swimming. Continue reading “Wrapping things up”
Weddings, spiders and mangoes
We are down to our last four weeks of school and things are very busy! Right now Gavin is away up north in the Shan state, previewing the spot where our school is going to be building a village school in a partnership with a charity that puts schools in communities that have not previously had access to education. Spring Break
We are back from our dive trip! We had a good time and saw some of the beautiful deserted beaches of the Mergui Archipelago. Continue reading “Spring Break”
Thingyan
We are finally on our version of Spring Break! Yesterday was the last day of school and today is the beginning of one of the most important Myanmar holidays-Thingyan. It is the Burmese New Year and is celebrated by throwing water on any and everything. Continue reading “Thingyan”
Made to measure

Slippery Slope
Time seems to be flying at the moment, and we are definitely on the slippery slope to summer vacation. Last night we had our big school gala in a hotel downtown, but I will let Gav tell you all about that as he was one of the main organisers! Continue reading “Slippery Slope”
Random Acts of Kindness
Before we arrived in Myanmar we were reading a few other blogs on living here and had read that you sometimes experienced random acts of kindness from the local Burmese people. Continue reading “Random Acts of Kindness”
Swimming
When we left London, it was 100% my intention to retire from coaching swimming. 16 years of sweating on the pool deck on Friday nights from November to March was plenty. Continue reading “Swimming”
Love Notes
Happy belated Valentine’s Day! Gav and I were back from out little trip in time to celebrate here in Yangon. We did the traditional home-made card exchange and I was quite proud of my creation. It referenced how sweaty I am and I thought I was very clever, but Gav didn’t get it. Oh well. I used glitter and that’s what counts. Continue reading “Love Notes”
Birthday Abroad
A couple of weeks ago we were driving past the local mall and I saw a big ‘Merry Christmas’ sign. My first thought was, ‘well that’s a bit early’, but then I realised that in fact it’s a perfectly normal time to be advertising Christmas and in fact in the UK it starts a lot earlier.
